EAST ANATOLIAN – ERZURUM Turkish bath COPPER SOAP BOX. A great ethnographic object of art survived in great condition. Hand forged and created in two pieces with tinned surface for protection. It has cast brass handle. Such soap boxes were used for carrying bathing scrubs, soaps, pumice stones, wash rags and etc. It has fruit branch motifs on top. There are little cut holes at bottom for water to drain out. Ladies used to go to baths with such boxes. They can be in different sizes from personal to such family sizes. Copper body hammered really thin so that it would be light and more weight can be carried in them.
